The All New Trek Emonda Road Bike

Trek's Emonda, The lightest production bike ever!@

Trek Emonda Highlights

Ultra lightweight When designing Émonda, the goal was simple: Design the lightest line of road bikes in the world. Émonda comes from the French verb émonder - to prune and trim away - and we held true to its meaning.

Émonda SLR 10 The lightest production road bike in the world, brushing the scales at 10.25lb/4.65kg, the Émonda SLR 10 is the pinnacle of lightweight road bike performance.

Dare to compare We will put the Émonda line up against any other bike on the market. In fact, we did and the results speak for themselves.

Size-Specific Ride Tuned Performance Utilizing Trek's extensive engineering resources and carbon expertise, our R&D team undertook the most stringent and sophisticated frame tube optimization project in our history - one that's three years in the making. The result of focusing on each strand of carbon, every minute detail is a line of bikes blessed with frames that are the absolute lightest in their class, with the pinnacle being the Émonda SLR frame that comes in at 690 grams.

OCLV Carbon Integration Nobody knows carbon like Trek. Only with our OCLV carbon process can a company fully integrate a complete bike system to create the lightest road bike line in the world. It started with what we do best, build the lightest frameset, in Waterloo, WI. The next step was to compliment it with the lightest available rideable and reliable components. When we found opportunities for further reduction, we took it and built the parts ourselves.

Lifetime warranty The lightest road bike line in the world is backed by the cycling world's best warranty. Your customers can ride assured with the protection of Trek Care.

New Ultralight Ride Tuned Seatmast Our Ride Tuned Seatmast is the lightest, most comfortable solution for all day race comfort. The no cut design eliminates traditional seat post clamping forces, so we can use less material at the seat tube junction, resulting in a lighter frame. We now offer an ultralight version of our Seatmast Cap, available on the SLR 10 and for aftermarket sales.

Bontrager XXX Bar/Stem Combo Introducing the all-new Bontrager XXX Bar/Stem combo which pushes the boundaries of light weight with outstanding strength and stiffness. This Trek/Bontrager collaboration saves 75 grams over a comparable Bontrager XXX bar & stem combination, while retaining the same stiffness. 129mm drop, 93mm reach, and Blendr-compatible.

Blendr The Bontrager XXX Bar/Stem combo features Bontrager's new integrative technology, Blendr. Blendr seamlessly mounts Bontrager Trip computers, Bontrager Ion lights, and Garmin computers to the XXX Bar/Stem, keeping everything zip tie-free and in its place.

Bontrager Speed Stop Brakes Émonda's Bontrager Speed Stop brakes mount directly to the frame via two bolts to reduce parts, save 50 grams per caliper over Ultegra units, and increase braking performance. Adjustable leverage ratio, two position quick release, and an ultra wide stance add to Speed Stop's versatility and adjustability. This Trek/Bontrager collaboration also increases tire clearance so that running larger tire sizes is possible.

DuoTrap S The second generation of our speed and cadence sensor that is integrated directly into the chainstay, DuoTrap S keeps your sensor and magnet in the right place without the use of zip ties or fear of sensors moving around and losing contact mid-ride. The DuoTrap S differs from our DuoTrap sensor by offering Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, along with a different mounting system that makes for better aesthetics.

Trek Emonda FAQ

What is Émonda?

The entire Émonda line was designed from the ground up to be the lightest, best riding bikes available, at every price point. The word Émonda itself comes from the French verb émonder, to prune or strip away. And that's exactly what we did: we eliminated everything that was unnecessary.

Why did we create Émonda?
All our rider research confirms that one of the first things that nearly every customer does when you're showing them a road bike is to pick it up or ask its weight (followed immediately by squeezing the brakes and flicking the top tube to hear the hollow carbon sound). Every rider appreciates a light, great-riding bike, and we know how to do it right.

How does the bike ride?
Flippin' awesome! Émonda faced the most rigorous ride testing program in Trek’s history. We threw every piece of technology at it: Finite Element Analysis, strain gauge instrumentation, and a custom-designed cornering computer model. But there’s only so much you can do in a lab... so for over a year, our Trek Factory Racing athletes and other pro riders performed iteration after iteration of ride testing to determine the perfect carbon layup and ride characteristics. Thanks to this invaluable input, Émonda has quickly become many of our racers' favorite bike.

What about all this size-specific tube shaping that has been in the media lately?
We've been ahead of the size-specific curve since 1992, when we first introduced OCLV carbon. At that point, we were only able to adjust the laminate of each of the lugs (BB cluster, seat lug, and head lug). We've led the industry in this area ever since. In 2004, technological advancements allowed us to make greater changes to the laminate and extend the adapted frame areas to the top tube, down tube, and seat tube. The 2008 Madone marked the first time where we were able to control the laminate on EVERY part of the frame, as we continue to do today on every carbon road bike. Using FEA (Finite Element Analysis), bench testing, and ride testing with our teams, Émonda represents the absolute pinnacle of our tube shaping expertise.

With this bike being so light, is there a rider weight limit?
Émonda has passed all required safety standards, plus our own stringent impact and durability tests, which greatly exceed industry standards. It therefore carries the same 275lb weight limit as the rest of our road line. (The only exception is the SLR 10’s Tune wheels and saddle, which carry a 90kg/198lb limit.) Furthermore, Émonda carries Trek’s lifetime warranty, the best in the industry.

How much lighter is Émonda compared to a Madone or Domane?
While all three of these bikes are the lightest in their category, there’s simply nothing that can compare to Émonda. When comparing complete bikes with the same build kits, Émonda SLR comes in at 336 grams (3/4lb) lighter than the aero Madone 7 Series, and an incredible 608 grams (1-1/3lb) lighter than Domane 6 Series.

What do the Émonda bikes weigh?
Each Émonda is simply the lightest in its category. We dare you to weigh some of the bikes on your floor and compare the difference to the corresponding Émonda. Weights below are for 56cm bikes (52cm for WSD). *Note: at the time of launch, final production versions of Shimano’s 5800 105 was not available. Therefore, the Shimano 105 bike weights are not immediately available, but we will publish soon.

Has the geometry changed at all?
The top-end Émonda SLRs are available in both H1 and H2, while the SL and S models are offered in H2 – which is absolutely the best choice for the majority of riders. In both H1 and H2 flavors of Émonda, we've changed the geo changed slightly from the aero Madone to best suit a Grand Tour riding bike. Thorough blind ride tests have confirmed that Émonda's geometry is preferred for this kind of riding.

How are the models set up?
All Émonda models are organized by their frame level and drivetrain build. The frame levels are S, SL, and SLR. The number that follows the frame designation represents the drivetrain spec.

  • 4 – Shimano Tiagra
  • 5 – Shimano 105 5800
  • 6 – Shimano Ultegra 6800
  • 8 – Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 mechanical
  • 9 – Shimano Dura-Ace 9070 Di2
  • 10 – The pinnacle of lightweight, featuring SRAM Red

For example, on the Émonda SL 6, the SL designates the SL frame and fork, while the 6 designates the complete Ultegra drivetrain.

What is DuoTrap S?
It's the second generation of our speed and cadence sensor that is integrated directly into the chainstay. Integrating this sensor directly into the frame offers optimal aesthetics, weight, and aerodynamics. Plus, it means zero zip ties to rub your frame, no sensors moving around and losing contact with the magnet, and nothing to fall off mid-ride. The DuoTrap S differs from our DuoTrap sensor by offering both Bluetooth and ANT+ connectivity, along with a different mounting system that makes for better aesthetics.

You say Émonda drivetrain builds are complete gruppos. You just mean the derailleurs and shifters match up, right?
No way. When we say complete gruppos, we mean it. Every Émonda model comes with matching chain, cassette, shifters, derailleurs, crank, brakes, everything. The only exceptions to this are the brakes on the SLR 6 and SLR 10, which come with our Bontrager Speed Stop direct-mount calipers for the ultimate in lightweight performance. These all-new brakes offer phenomenal and tunable stopping power, all while dropping nearly 100 grams from direct-mount Ultegra calipers and 60 grams from Dura-Ace models.

Is Émonda going to be the replacement for Madone?
When you look at the platform overview, you can see that the Émonda will take over the majority of the Madone line. Madone will live on where it is the most effective and the future of the Madone is secure and exciting. The Émonda covers from $1,500 to $15,000 and is the go-to line for the performance race rider.
